Why We Don’t Take Standalone Deck Repair Jobs

TL;DR: Wymore Decks & Outdoor Living does not offer isolated deck repairs, such as replacing a few failed boards or tightening a loose rail as a service call. We do offer deck inspection, resurfacing, additions, and rebuilds, depending on what the existing structure can support. The difference is whether we can assess the whole job and recommend work we can stand behind.

We get calls from homeowners who see a soft board or a railing that moves and hope it is a small fix. I understand that. Nobody wants to rebuild a deck if the issue can be dealt with safely another way. But I cannot tell you what is worth keeping from a description of the surface alone.

Why a Bad Board or Loose Rail Deserves a Structural Check

Sometimes a bad board really is just a bad board. Sometimes it is the part you can see of a problem underneath. A loose rail deserves a look at the connection, not just another screw in the top. If any part of the deck feels unstable, keep people off that area until a qualified person checks it.

That is why we do not take a patchwork repair call and promise the rest of the deck is fine. A replacement board over an unknown structure does not answer the larger question of whether the deck can carry the work you want to do on it.

Decide Between Resurfacing and Rebuilding After Inspection

An inspection is the starting point. If the existing frame is suitable, a resurfacing project may replace the deck boards while retaining an evaluated substructure. That is different from laying new boards on top of old ones. TimberTech’s own resurfacing guidance describes removing the old boards and checking the structure before installing new decking.

If the support is not suitable for the proposed work, a rebuild may make more sense. An addition raises its own structural and layout questions. Neither resurfacing nor an addition is guaranteed just because a homeowner asks for it; the existing deck and the new design have to be assessed first.

What to Check in Warranties Before Resurfacing

A manufacturer’s product warranty applies according to that product’s written terms. It does not automatically vanish because the builder did not construct the original frame, nor does it cover every problem caused by the structure beneath it. Our own workmanship coverage is a separate question tied to the work we perform and the written project terms. I would not promise lifetime coverage on a repair, resurfacing, or rebuild without checking the specific agreement.

If your deck is showing signs of movement, rot, or a loose guard, tell us what you have noticed and ask about an inspection. We’ll help determine whether the next conversation is about resurfacing, an addition, or a new deck. For a small standalone repair, look for a contractor who offers that service rather than expecting us to take a job outside the work we do.

Best Under Decking Systems for Omaha Homes

If you have a raised deck, there is a large area underneath that probably goes unused. Every time it rains or snows, water drains through the deck boards and soaks everything below. The space collects leaves, mud, and standing water instead of serving any real purpose.
